EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team bounced back after a first set loss to defeat the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 3-1, Friday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI raised its record to 14-13 overall and 6-5 in the GLVC, while UMSL falls to 18-10 overall, 8-3 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles soared in the final three sets with a pair of 25-22 wins in the second and third and sealed the victory with a 25-21 win in the fourth.

USI was led by junior outside hitter Brittani Oliver, who had a team-high 14 kills and a .407 hitting percentage, and sophomore middle blocker Danielle LaGrange, who had 11 kills and a team-best .556 hitting percentage. Senior setter Melanie Pund set up Oliver and LaGrange with 35 assists.

The victory kept USI in the hunt for a spot in the GLVC Tournament and moved the Eagles into a tie for sixth with Drury University and Saint Joseph’s College. USI holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Drury, but Saint Joseph’s holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Eagles.

The 2009 home schedule concludes Saturday at 3 p.m. when USI hosts Missouri University of Science and Technology for Senior Day. Missouri S&T raised its record to 10-23 overall and 5-6 in the GLVC with a 3-0 victory at Kentucky Wesleyan College tonight.

USI will honor its five seniors – Courtney Bealor, Ashley Henricks, Kathi Hindman, Jaclyn Johnson, and Pund – prior to Saturday’s match.
