EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana softball junior first baseman Brittany DeWeese was named the GLVC Player of the Week for her efforts in the Screaming Eagles’ 4-0 start to league play this past weekend.
The Memorial High School graduate hit .667 in 12 trips to the plate with five RBIs, three runs scored, four doubles, and a home run.
In USI’s 8-7 win over Missouri University of Science & Technology Saturday, DeWeese was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. She returned in the nightcap to go 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a run scored, and the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning.
DeWeese came back Sunday to go 3-for-5 in the Eagles’ sweep over Maryville University on Sunday. She was 1-for-2 in the series opener and went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, and two RBIs in the night cap.
For the season, DeWeese leads the Eagles with a .393 batting average, nine RBIs, five doubles, and two home runs. She extended her team-high hitting streak to seven games Tuesday in USI’s 5-4, extra-inning win over Wheeling Jesuit University.
The criminal justice studies and sociology major will be back in action later this afternoon as the Eagles (5-6, 4-0 GLVC) look to extend their winning streak to six games when they take on Urbana University at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. First pitch is 4 p.m. (CST).
