EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team announced that 5’10” freshman setter/right side hitter Jorae Bradbury (Decatur, Indiana) has signed a national letter of intent to play for Head Coach Leah Mercer’s Screaming Eagles in 2010.
Bradbury is currently a senior at Concordia Lutheran High School in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where she earned four varsity letters in volleyball.
This past fall, Bradbury helped lead CLHS to a 3A sectional championship and a second-place finish at the region tournament. Bradbury also led helped lead CLHS to a 3A sectional title and a second-place finish at the region tournament as a sophomore in 2007 as well as a conference championship as a junior in 2008.
An All-State selection as a senior, Bradbury finished her career with 1,579 career assists, 762 kills, 893 digs, 197 blocks, and 252 aces.
Bradbury earned first-team All-Conference honors in 2007, 2008, and 2009, and was a second-team All-Conference honoree as a freshman in 2006. She also garnered All-Area honors twice and was named to the Indiana North All Star team in 2009.
In addition to her athletic accolades, Bradbury earned Academic Honors as a senior and is a member of the National Honor Society.
“I am thrilled to add a setter of Jorae’s caliber to our program,” Mercer said. “It gives us depth at the position and allows us to continue a competitive atmosphere which we always strive to have.
“Jorae is a versatile player and has played as a hitter on past teams,” Mercer continued. “I expect this versatility to add depth on the right side as well.”
Bradbury, who played club volleyball for the Ft. Wayne Volleyball Club, is the first player this spring and the fourth player since the early signing period last fall to sign with the Eagles for next season. She joins 6’0” middle blocker Emily Diedrich (Newburgh, Indiana), 5’10” outside hitter Kristy Gerardot (Monroeville, Indiana), and 5’7” freshman defensive specialist Kayla Heldman (Greenwood, Indiana) on USI’s list of newcomers for the 2010 campaign.
