EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana senior designated player Sara Loete and junior second baseman Amanda Brendel were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V team in a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Loete was selected to the first team and will be eligible to earn Academic All-America honors, while Brendel was selected to the third team.
An All-America honoree in 2008, Loete earned third-team All-GLVC honors in 2010 after hitting .291 with eight doubles, three home runs, and 23 RBIs. Loete, who set a single-season school record with 54 RBIs in 2008, finished her career ranked sixth all-time with 104 career RBIs and third all-time at USI with 18 career home runs.
Loete has excelled in the class room where she has a 3.92 GPA and is double majoring in social sciences and history with an emphasis in teaching.
An All-GLVC performer in 2009, Brendel finished the season with a .229 batting average, seven doubles, five home runs, and 18 RBIs. Last season, Brendel hit .307 with 10 doubles, seven home runs, and 26 RBIs.
Brendel has accumulated a 3.51 GPA and is majoring in physical education with an emphasis in teaching.
USI finished the 2010 season with a 19-26 overall record, 15-12 in the GLVC, and advanced to the GLVC Tournament for the 17th time in the last 18 years.
