Watch Announcement
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana Department of Athletics and WEHT-TV News 25, the region's ABC affliate, announced a joint agreement to televise 18 home men’s basketball games live on its new News 25 Sport Channel in the 2010-11 season. News 25 Sports Director Lance Wilkerson also will host a weekly basketball show, featuring USI Head Coach Rodney Watson.
The announcement came during a press conference in which WEHT publicized the format change of RTV-25 to News 25 Sports Channel (Perry-Spencer Communication channel 6; WOW Channel 111; Broadband channel 135; Time Warner channel 184; Insight channel 189; and over-the-air on channel 25-2). Viewers can expect to see a variety of high school and college games, as well as, programming from Wazoo Sports Network (a regional sports network in Kentucky) and IHSAA Championship events.
“It’s a first-of-its kind on Tri-State television,” said News 25 General Manager Doug Padgett. “We’re excited to be able to broadcast a variety of sporting events that fans have been longing to see on local television.”
The live television agreement is a first for USI, which has been televising its men’s and women’s basketball games tape-delayed on a variety of local access channels since the mid-1990s. “This is a tremendous opportunity for USI and the Athletic Department,” said USI Director of Athletics Jon Mark Hall. “News 25 Sports Channel allows college basketball fans, from beyond the Tri-State area, to see our exciting Screaming Eagles.”
In addition to the live games and the coach’s show, viewers will see several hours of programming produced by USI students that will feature a variety of athletic and academic endeavors at the University.
USI men’s and women’s basketball games also remain available live over the internet on the B2 Network.
