EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field team was one of 67 Division II programs to be named an All-Academic squad by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association.

To be eligible for the distinction, the program must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better.

The Screaming Eagles carried a 3.41 GPA, tying them for 14th amongst the 67 institutions that were recognized on the list.

Additionally, the Eagles had four student-athletes earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. That list included senior Mary Ballinger, junior Sarah Whiteman, sophomore Adrienne Curtis, and sophomore Jackie Henderson.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field team, student-athletes had to have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA II Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA II Indoor or Outdoor Championships in their respective events.

Ballinger, who earned All-America honors in the mile during the indoor season and the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the outdoor campaign, is majoring in food and nutrition and has a 3.543 grade point average. The 2009 national champion in the steeplechase, Ballinger will serve as a student-assistant coach for the Eagles in 2010-11.

Whiteman, who posted a pair of provisional qualifying times in the steeplechase, earned first-team All-GLVC honors during the outdoor campaign. She compiled a 3.837 GPA in exercise science before graduating this past spring.

Curtis, who is majoring in food and nutrition with a 3.806 GPA, posted a provisional mark in the 10,000 meters during the outdoor season. Henderson, who has a 3.692 GPA in mathematics, earned first-team All-GLVC honors during the outdoor season and second-team All-GLVC accolades during the indoor season. She qualified for the NCAA II Outdoor Championships in the 10,000 meters where she finished 15th.
