EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team opened its 2010 campaign with a dominating 2-0 victory over Bethel College (Tennessee) Thursday evening at Strassweg Field.

Junior forward Meagan Kempf used a pass from freshman forward Jessica Scott in the 10th minute to find the back of the net and give the Screaming Eagles a 1-0 lead.

USI (1-0), which outshot Bethel (0-3) 19-6, added an insurance tally in the 48th minute when freshman midfielder/forward Samantha Houston used a feed from Kempf to record her first collegiate goal.

Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer recorded a save in each half to post her seventh career shutout and give the Eagles their first season-opening victory since 2005.

The Eagles open GLVC play Sunday when they travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to take on preseason No. 9 Northern Kentucky University. USI stunned the Norse a year ago, defeating the national powerhouse, 1-0, in its GLVC-opener at Strassweg Field.
